Statement and Policy

JITIN applies a Zero Tolerance towards Plagiarism, therefore establishing the following policy outlining specific actions (penalties) when plagiarism is identified in an article submitted for publication in JITIN.

Definition: Plagiarism involves the "use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work."

Policy: Papers must be original, unpublished, and not pending publication elsewhere. Any material taken verbatim from another source must be clearly identified through (1) indentation, (2) use of quotation marks, and (3) proper source identification.

Any text exceeding fair use standards (more than two or three sentences or their equivalent) or graphic material reproduced from another source requires permission from the copyright holder and, where feasible, the original author. Proper citation of the original source is mandatory.

All submitted papers will be checked for similarity using Turnitin.

When plagiarism is identified, the Principal Editor responsible for reviewing the paper will take appropriate measures based on the extent of plagiarism found, following these guidelines:

Similarity Level

The editorial board has determined the following actions based on the similarity index:

1. Similarity Index above 40%: The article will be rejected due to poor citation and/or paraphrasing, with no resubmission accepted.

2. Similarity Index 25-40%: The article will be returned to the author for improvement. Correct citations and proper paraphrasing must be added, even if citations were previously provided.

3. Similarity Index below 25%: The article may be accepted or require citation improvements. Proper citations must be provided for all outsourced content.

In cases 2 and 3, authors should carefully revise the article, add the necessary citations, paraphrase outsourced text effectively, and resubmit the article.
